Blood donation

Find blood donors at your university

When someone on campus needs blood, a request reaches donors of the same blood group at the same university, who can answer in one tap.

In an emergency, call the hospital or blood bank first

VarsityKotha helps you reach students on your own campus quickly. It does not replace a hospital or a blood bank. Always confirm the blood group and cross-matching with the hospital.

How it works

  • Become a donor

Anyone with an account can register as a donor, set whether they are available now, and note when they last donated.

  • Post a request

Verified students can post a blood request with the blood group, hospital and when it is needed. Donors of that group at your university get a notification.

  • “I can donate” in one tap

A donor taps once to respond. Only then is their phone number shared, and only with the person who asked.

  • Eligible donors only

Donors are notified only if they are available and last donated at least 120 days ago (every 4 months in Bangladesh). Others can still read and respond.

  • Stays inside your campus

Requests, donors and notifications stay inside one university, so the people who answer are fellow students.

  • Limits against misuse

A student can post up to 3 requests a day and have at most 3 open at once, and a donor gets at most 3 request notifications a day.

Who can donate to whom

The request page lists compatible blood groups as information. A request notifies donors of the same group; here is who can give red blood cells to each patient group.

General compatibility for red blood cells. The hospital makes the final match.

Your blood group stays private

A blood group is health data, so VarsityKotha treats it that way.

  • It is shown only on your own profile and, when you respond to a request, to the person who asked
  • Nobody can browse or search donors
  • The only number shown publicly is a count, like “14 A+ donors at your university”
  • Your phone number goes only to the requester, and only when you tap “I can donate”

Frequently asked questions

How do I find blood donors at my university?

Post a request in the app with the blood group, hospital and time needed. Eligible donors of the same group at your university get a notification and can respond with one tap.

Who can post a blood request?

A verified student, which means signed in with a university email. Anyone with an account can become a donor and respond.

Can I search for donors by blood group?

No. To protect donors' privacy nobody can browse or search them. You only see a count on your request, such as how many donors of that group are at your university.

Is my phone number public?

No. A donor's phone number goes only to the requester, only when the donor taps “I can donate” and confirms it.

How often can someone donate?

In Bangladesh, every 4 months. The app notifies a donor only if they last donated at least 120 days ago. Please follow the guidance of the blood bank or doctor.

Does it work for other universities?

Requests stay inside one university, so students are matched with donors from their own campus. Each university has its own pool.

Is it free?

Yes. Blood requests and donor registration are free in the VarsityKotha app.
